Equipment

Our studio is fully loaded with the latest Balanced Body equipment.  The Pilates Method uses versatile equipment to accomodate persons of various ages and physical abilities.  Clients experience a full-body workout while sitting or lying down.  Pilates equipment defies the old philosophy of "No pain, No gain."  Instead, the equipment allows you to stretch, strengthen, align, balance, and increase your range of motion without any impact.

How does it all work together?  Clients gain body awareness by using the equipment because it aligns, supports and isolates different body parts and muscles.  The mat is excellent because it is economical and transports with ease.  Many of the equipment exercises can be easily simulated on the mat.  Clients can take what they learn at the studio and practice the excerises at home, in a hotel room, at the beach, or bascially anywhere with enough space for a mat.

Mat

Pilates mats are thicker than yoga mats.  They are generally 5/8" thick to provide superior comfort and support for the spine and tailbone during spinal articulation.

Reformer

The reformer is a flat-bed with a movable carriage.  It contains 5 springs of varying resistance.  The carriage is moved by pushing against the footbar or pulling the straps with the hands or feet.  A full-body workout is easily acheived on the Reformer.

Cadillac

The cadillac or tower is a stationary flat-bed higher than the reformer.  Springs attach to the cadillac frame for progressive resistance and provide a full-body workout.  Older clients typically prefer the cadillac over the reformer as the heightened bed provides for more stability.  However, younger clients enjoy the cadillac for the hanging or upside-down exercises the cadillac introduces to the workout.

EXO® Chair
The EXO® Chair is possibly the most versatile piece of Pilates equipment.  It's the newest chair on the market with ergonomical lines and new springs to incorporate arm work.  Compared to the old Wunda Chair, the EXO® Chair weighs less, takes up less space, and stacks for storage.  The spring-loaded pedal can be split or used as one.  The EXO® Chair is a challenge for any student, beginner or advanced.  The EXO® Chair is exceptionally useful for those unable to bear weight on their feet or back for extended periods of time.

Pilates Arc

Balanced Body's Pilates Arc is modeled after the classic spine corrector.  However, this lightweight arc is ergonimically designed to accomodate more body types and uses.  The Pilates Arc can be used alone or with other equipment.  It's best for back stretches and back support.

Ladder Barrel

The ladder barrel is a high-wood barrel used for stretching, enhancing flexibility and strengthening the core.  Ladder barrel exercises supplement reformer and cadillac workouts.
